The 40-70 Imperial Tractor was built as late as 1920. They were built under the US Patent issued to Valentine Brothers Company, the predecessor of Imperial.

Imperial Manufacturing Company was formed in 1910 from the Merger of Valentine Bros, Manufacturing Company with the Shock & Hay Loader Company. Imperial tractors were apparently built as late as 1914, but in June of that year, Imperial announced that they would be building the Strite tractor. In a 1917 announcement, Imperial made arrangements to build the Stinton tractor. Exactly when Imperial left the tractor business remains a gray area, but indications are that 1920 was the last year. After that, the company went into other manufacturing ventures.
